Prof. Guojun Bu
Prof. Guojun Bu, the Lo Ka Chung Charitable Foundation Professor of Science and Chair Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is an internationally recognized leader in Alzheimer's disease research. Renowned for his pioneering work on the role of apolipoprotein E (APOE) in the disease's pathogenesis, he has earned an H-index of 115 and approximately 40,000 citations. Prof. Bu has received numerous prestigious honors, including the NIH MERIT Award and the MetLife Foundation Award. In addition to his scientific achievements, he serves as Founding Editor of Molecular Neurodegeneration and holds editorial roles in Science Advances and Neuron.
Research Interest
Our research centers on elucidating why APOE4 serves as a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and identifying therapeutic strategies that target APOE-related molecular pathways. We also examine the protective mechanisms of APOE2 and rare APOE variants. Our work addresses key pathogenic processes underlying aging and Alzheimer’s disease, including brain lipid metabolism, neuronal signaling, neuroimmune regulation with a focus on TREM2 and APOE, proteinopathies, and cerebrovascular integrity and function.
